Guide Jonas Alseika on the Curonian Spit

About the guide

Jonas Alseika

A guide from Neringa. I lead only private tours and talk more about people than dates. If the spit feels more understandable after the tour, rather than just more beautiful, I have done my job.

I spent nine years at Nida's Agila Culture and Tourism Information Centre. It was the best possible training: every day I answered questions asked by real visitors, rather than those imagined by textbooks.

I also manage a passenger transport company, so I can arrange a tour with transport, pick you up at your accommodation and drive you around all day.

I completed training at Guidelines Academy. It helped with the hardest part of guiding: turning a collection of facts into a story people want to hear.

Connection to the place

Why the spit

The Curonian Spit is small and close-knit. Many people know one another, and knowledge you will not find in any publication is passed on in conversations by the harbour, in cafés and during quiet winters.

How I guide

A route at your pace

„We take our time and stop where it is worth stopping.“

Before the tour we have a short conversation by phone or message. I need to know how much time you have, whether you are travelling with children and whether you have visited the spit before. That conversation shapes the itinerary.

The itinerary is flexible. If you have a question, I answer it. If you want to stay somewhere longer, we do. If it starts raining, we go somewhere that is interesting in the rain too.

I speak Lithuanian, English and Russian. I adapt the story to the group: with children we talk more about everyday life; with returning visitors, about what they missed last time.

Only your own company

I lead only private tours for couples, families, friends and small teams. No shared bus and no strangers whose pace you have to follow.
